What does a Headhunter’s Day Look Like

I have worked as a headhunter for many years

And I mean really many years

And for a lot of those years, I spent my time on LinkedIn

I’ve lost count of how many hours that adds up to

But it’s a LOT

In my work on LinkedIn, I made lists

And more lists

And even more lists

After finding the candidate on LinkedIn—

the EXACT right candidate, mind you

The kind of candidate who is absolutely top-class

The one who can walk straight into the client’s company and perform from day one

Those were the candidates I found

Once I had found the candidate,

I googled him (sorry)

I checked Facebook (sorry)

I checked Krak (sorry)

I studied the candidate’s LinkedIn profile in details

Again

And again

And again

In short,

My research uncovered everything

And I mean EVERYTHING

That was worth knowing about that specific candidate

Before I finally contacted that one person

Using the most valuable information

I could possibly find

And yes, you guessed right

Krak’s contact information

There I could see BOTH

The distance the candidate would have to commute to my client’s company

AND

The phone number

What’s not to like?

And honestly,

With our increasingly digital world

It has become a lot harder to stay hidden

I never wrote meaningless LinkedIn messages

If I had,

I would never have closed as many assignments as I did

As in NEVER

No, I always reached the candidate by phone

ALWAYS

Because then I could SELL

I would try to convince the candidate

That I had the golden opportunity right here

In my hand

And it was only meant

For that specific person

But they had to act now

The offer was valid RIGHT NOW

Not tomorrow

Not the day after tomorrow

No, it was now—and only now

So on the phone,

I could deliver my sales pitch

And it was also harder for the candidate to say NO

When I was being SO nice,

SO smiling,

SO laughing,

SO persuasive

But I still got plenty of them

The NOs, that is

Some right away

Others after we had gone through the entire recruitment process

And once I got a NO,

The whole thing started all over again

LinkedIn

Research

Phone calls

NO

Linkedin

Research

Phone calls

NO

Over and over again

And the worst part of all

I worked 100% on a no cure, no pay basis

No task completed

No payment

So when I finally received that YES

That I was desperately longing for

I felt relieved

Luckily, I was good at my job

Otherwise, it would never have worked

With persistence, drive, and a healthy dose of optimism

You can go a long way

But honestly,

It was hard work

That’s when I started thinking:

There has to be a better way

Smarter

Easier

More affordable

A way to save both myself and countless others from all that hard work

That was when

LITOU was born
